MUS001Bagpipes for Children

This class promotes readiness, enjoyment, and actual performance skills appropriate for younger students. Individual instruction and playing in a group. Practice chanter (about $60) required.

MUS003Bodhrán for Beginners

Joan DiBlasi

Beginning Bodhrán will emphasize the basic introductory skills necessary to begin playing the bodhrán. This includes holding the drum and stick, playing a basic beat to jigs and reels, and distinguishing parts of tunes- the A part, B part and occasionally C and D parts. As the weeks progress emphasis focuses on the phrases of the tune. A CD of basic tunes used in the class will be given to each student for practice at home.

MUS004Intermediate Bodhrán

Joan DiBlasi

Intermediate Bodhrán will focus on a more dynamic approach to playing by gaining better control of the stick, more clearly distinguishing each part of the tune, introducing rolls and other ornaments to enhance the tune. Jigs and reels will be emphasized. A CD of basic tunes used in the class will be given to each student for practice at home

MUS005Tin Whistle for Beginners

Scales and basic ornamentation, as well as advanced techniques developed through repertoire to encourage students to play in a group situation. Tin whistle (about $10 - $15) required.

For students with some experience playing the tin whistle, this course concentrates on developing techniques and playing individually. Tin whistle (about $10 - $15) required.

MUS007 – Fiddle: Beginners & Advanced Beginners

Absolute Beginners: No previous musical training is required. Students first learn to hold the instrument and play a progression of notes building to simple tunes. Violin required; may attend Advanced Beginners class

Advanced Beginners: This class is designed to reinforce proper bow and hand technique by playing simple Irish dance tunes including jigs and Kerry polkas.

MUS008Fiddle: Intermediate

If you’ve been playing Irish dance tunes for a while, this class will increase your repertoire and develop tune ornamentation using reels, jigs, hornpipes, slip jigs and more.

This course focuses on basic chords, strums, rhythm construction and fret work learning to play notes and tunes.

This course concentrates on blending melodies using correct finger picking while learning the secrets of good accompaniment.

MUS011 – Piano Accordion for Beginners

Terry Feeley

Class starts with exercises in the right hand leading to simple melodies followed by accompaniment with the bass. Students will also learn to coordinate both hands and the bellows in playing tunes. Students will also learn to read music.

MUS011 – Piano Accordion Intermediate and Beyond

Terry Feeley

Correct fingering, timing, accenting, phrasing, chords, and basses will be taught. Faster tunes like marches, jigs, polkas, and horn pipes will be explored.
